Professional & Personal Development Commitment
The City of Greenville is committed to the professional and personal development of its workforce. We offer a variety of training and development opportunities both through individual departments as well as City-wide. In addition to professional memberships, workshops, certification programs, and seminars sponsored by each department, we offer the following programs and services.
Greenville Leadership Development Program
This program is designed to better equip current and aspiring City mid-level managers and professional employees who have demonstrated significant management and leadership potential with the skills to move into critical leadership positions in the years ahead. The program is also designed to maximize the leadership and management potential of the City of Greenville's management team.
Supervisory Development Program
The goal of the Supervisory Development Program (SDP) is to promote excellence in selecting and managing the City's diverse workforce. SDP is designed to educate participants about the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to be effective in leading and coaching other employees, while maintaining compliance with federal and state laws, and City policies and procedures.
New Employee Orientation
New Employee Orientation (NEO) is conducted in a half-day session on a monthly basis for recent hires. NEO introduces new employees to:
- The City's Leadership/management team
- Health and wellness programs
- Human Resource policies and procedures
- Safety and risk management
- A variety of other City-related topics of interest to new employees
Performance Evaluation Training
Performance Evaluation Training is designed to enhance the City's supervisory staff's understanding of performance management and their legal and practical understanding of conducting effective performance evaluations.
Collective Risk Management Team (CRMT) Training
CRMT Training is designed to train a group of City employees (selected by the City Manager) to coordinate the management and resolution of complaints of wrongdoing that have the potential for creating liability for the City. During a workshop, the CRMT class will be taught the skills, ethics, legal issues, policies, and process-related awareness to take on such a task. The CRMT is a group of supervisory and non-supervisory employees who represent a cross-section of racial and gender mix.
Tuition Assistance & Reimbursement
The City of Greenville offers tuition assistance/reimbursement to all regular, full-time employees who are seeking to continue their personal and professional development. The courses/classes must be taken outside of normal working hours at an accredited college, university, junior college, or business/technical institute. Online courses are also eligible for reimbursement.
Commercial Driver's Licenses
Employees required to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Commercial Beginner's Permit (CBP) as part of their job duties are eligible for reimbursement (or partial reimbursement) for these licenses while employed with the City of Greenville. Certified copies of MVR receipts are required to obtain reimbursements.
