Three projects are underway to burying the existing overhead utilities in and around Unity Park, including on S Hudson Street, Welborn Street, Mulberry Street and W Washington Street.
UNITY PARK UNDERGROUNDING PHASE IB
Utility lines will be buried along S Hudson Street, from Meadow Street to W Washington Street. A new traffic mast arm system will also be installed to replace the existing traffic signals on wooden poles.
Current Status: Construction is expected to begin in May and be complete by late 2021. Project is awarded to Carolina Conduit System.
UNITY PARK UNDERGROUNDING PHASE II
Utility lines will be buried along S Hudson Street, from Welborn Street to Mayberry Street.
Current Status: Preliminary design phase
Construction Start: Late spring 2022
West Washington Undergrounding Phase III
Utility lines will be buried along W Washington Street, from S Hudson Street to Trescott Street. This will complete the undergrounding along W Washington Street, from S Academy Street to Mulberry Street.
