Brownfields Requests
Since 2000, the City of Greenville has received approximately $1.8 million in funding from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency brownfield grants. In addition to helping ensure a healthy environment, these grants have been leveraged into more than $60 million in economic development and more than 176 jobs in the city. In 2014, the City received a grant for $400,000 to fund assessments and outreach for a three-year period. The City has completed this grant and has recently been awarded a $300,000 assessment grant for the 2018 - 2021 funding cycle, which will target the City's west side. A team of local community members will determine final site selection based on the factors listed below:
- Physical address of brownfield (include parcel numbers)
- Current property owner and owner contact
- Purchaser and contact for the property
- Assistance sought (Phase I; Phase II; cost sharing; other)
- Timeline for redevelopment (target date for closing/having the environmental assessments completed; timeline to begin and complete construction)
- Developer's projected investment in redevelopment
- Intended reuse of the property
- Resulting benefit to the community (number of affordable housing units; area dedicated to grocery store; number of jobs or entrepreneurial opportunities created; etc.)
Please submit a letter of intent to mmattison@greenvillesc.gov and redwards@greenvillesc.gov. The letter should include the information listed above, and should outline how the project will contribute to the City's community development goals.
